Mandate The Committee liaises with other national bodies in executing its mandate. It often collaborates with international and regional organizations and national agencies in its efforts to combat HIV/AIDS.
Membership The Committee is composed of 16 members who are elected for a five-year term.
Working methods The Committee is empowered to summon any member of the executive or any stakeholder on issues of national concern. The Committee may carry out site visits at the constituency level. Reports on matters dealt with by the Committee are tabled in parliament and made public.
Relations with other parliamentary bodies The Committee interacts and liaises with other parliaments, especially in the Southern African Development Community (SADC) region through the SADC Parliamentary Forum and its HIV/AIDS Desk, which organizes meetings for countries in the region.
Relations with external bodies The Committee liaises with other national bodies in executing its mandate. It often collaborates with international and regional organizations and national agencies in its efforts to combat HIV/AIDS.
Subjects dealt with The Committee recently visited the Kavango, Khomas and Caprivi regions to assess women's access to health care facilities in these regions with special reference to HIV/AIDS. The Committee also visited the Ohangwena, Oshikoto, Oshana and Erongo regions with a view to providing the private sector and MPs with an opportunity to: I. Exchange information to support efforts to combat HIV/AIDS in Namibia. II. Provide members with the opportunity to conduct meetings on legal requirements to address a broad range of HIV/AIDS-related issues.
